Trooper is first to die in line of duty since 1999
(WOUB) - A State Police trooper from Charles
Town has become the first to die in the line of duty in West Virginia in more than eight years.

First Sergeant Eric Burnett says Trooper B.W. Linn lost control of his cruiser on State Route 9 Friday night. The cruiser struck a utility pole, rolled several times and came to rest in a field.

Linn and two other troopers in separate cruisers were en route to assisting another trooper who was involved in a foot pursuit of a suspect at a convenience store.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The last trooper killed in the line of duty was Senior Trooper Douglas Wayne Bland in Pocahontas County in January 1999.
