New county may join regional jail
(WOUB) - The Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail may be adding one more county to its service area.

Jail Warden Jeremy Tolson says the Regional Jail Commission has scheduled a November 9th special meeting to determine whether or not to contract services with Vinton County.

The regional jail right now serves Athens, Hocking, Morgan and Perry Counties.

Tolson says Vinton County is requesting service for 15 beds at the jail for an annual cost of nearly $250, 000.

A two-thirds vote from the 12 members jail commission is needed to approve adding on Vinton County.

The jail has had some problems collecting fees in the past.

In particular, Tolson says Morgan County owes the jail about $95, 000 in past due fees.

He says the county does have a payment arrangement setup through the jail commission to come current on its account and that Morgan County has paid about $33,000 it owed to the jail for October.

At the Regional Jail Commission meeting today, Tolson says a June 30th deadline was set for the county to pay its past fees.
