Marietta man recieves Jenco Award
(2007-10-29)
(WOUB) - Henry Burke is a teacher, lecturer and historian.

He's also an award winner.

Burke recently was honored by the Jenco Foundation for Lifetime Committment to Appalachia.

Burke lives in Marietta and is an expert on African American history.

He loves to talk about the Undergound Railroad in Southeast Ohio.

The people who nominated Burke for the award say he's "the only person who publicly talked about the multi-cultural diversity and African American history in Appalachian Ohio and the Ohio River Valley."

They say this is "a topic typically hushed up or considered taboo."
