Athens City Council Forum
(WOUB) - A pair of candidates for at-large seats on Athens City Council strongly disagree about how the city should grow economically.

Troy Gregorino, an independent, says Athens should not proceed with any development that cost the city green space.

He says city council should designate certain areas of the city which ARE open to development.

Incumbent Jim Sands, a Democrat, says the city might want to think about ways to ensure the preservation of existing green space in Athens.

But he also says, there are laws on the books that do limit the scope of development within city limits.

Sands and Gregorino spoke at a candidate's forum last night sponsored by the Athens Library and the League of Women Voters.

The two candidates are among five people running for three at-large seats on Athens City Council.

Democrats Elahu Gosney and Amy Flowers, an incumbent, as well as independent Cindy Johnson, did not attend.
