Space sends letter for Jackson Metals
(2007-10-23)
(WOUB) - More than a dozen workers at a plant in Jackson are on a temporary lay off and a Southeast Ohio Congressman wants to speed up the process to get them back to work.

Congressman Zack Space sent a letter to the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee Tuesday in hopes of accelerating a bill that would help the people at Jackson Metals return to work.

Jackson Metals makes money by melting pennies.

The U.S. mint initially gave Jackson Metals the go-ahead in 2006 to begin their business but then imposed a ban on the company's operations in December 2006.

Space introduced a bill that would tell the Treasury Department to econsider the arrangement.

Workers have been laid off since last week.
