All clear after chemical leak
(2007-10-23)
(WOUB) - IRONTON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities have lifted their order
advising residents to stay indoors within a one-mile radius of a
rail yard in northeastern Kentucky.

The alert over a suspected chemical leak had included parts of
neighboring Lawrence County in southern Ohio.

Last night, CSX railroad workers reported a suspicious white
cloud around a tanker car containing hydrochloric acid. At least
four responders at the scene complained of watery eyes and itchy
skin. No other injuries have been reported.

Lawrence County emergency management officials say air
monitoring detected no harmful vapors in Ohio. But public and
Catholic schools in the city of Ironton were closed as a
precaution.
