Scioto County Shooting
(WOUB) - A farmer says he was just trying to scare two boys who stole a bale of his hay when he fired his gun at their truck, killing one.

35-year-old Eric Whisman was arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court this morning.

He was ordered held in jail on $35,000 bond.

Whisman is accused of killing Nathaniel Kennedy by shooting his
rifle at the pickup truck the boy was driving.

Police say the shot went through the driver's seat, hitting Kennedy.

The boy was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

A friend riding with Kennedy was not injured.

Authorities say the boys had intended to practice target shooting with the hay bale.
