SCHIP veto not good -- local reaction
(2007-10-04)
(WOUB) - A split decision from Ohio's senators after Bush's veto on the State Children's Health Insurance Program yesterday.

Republican George Voinovich says the proposed expansion would be a step in the wrong direction and suggests reforming the health care system we already have.

Democrat Sherrod Brown says Bush is uncompassionate. He also made the comment that he wished the president had spoken to Ohio families before vetoing the bill.

So, that's what WOUB did, talk to Ohioans, and they told us they don't like the veto.

We talked to Kourtney Hartman of Logan, Ronald Williams of Athens, and Jonathon McCoy of Athens.

Democrats in Congress say they plan to wait a few weeks before they try to override the veto.

They hope to gain more support from Republicans first.
