Deployment bill falls short
(WOUB) - Congressional Democrats have suffered another blow in their efforts to challenge President Bush's Iraq war policies.

A proposal to give troops as much time at home as they spend deployed fell short by four votes.

Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown says he's disappointed.

"If you really want to speak for the troops, regardless what you think about the war, you should respect them enough to give them that downtime between re-deployments, between deployments, so that they can rejuvenate and be ready again."

The bill was thought to have the best chance of several anti-war measures because of its pro-military premise.
