Voinovich Iraq legislation
(2007-09-18)
(WOUB) - Senator George Voinovich has drafted a legislation aimed at moving forward with a compromise in Iraq.

Voinovich says the legislation is a bipartisan compromise, which would keep American forces engaged in Iraq while also stating a recommendation by General Patraeus that a reduction of forces is imminent.

It also calls for an increased role for the U.N. and other regional allies.

The legislation would not involve a deadline by congress, but would require the Administration, working in conjunction with the generals on the ground, to report back with a deadline.

Voinovich says his legislation satisfies those who want a deadline and those who do not want to force a specific, congressionally created deadline on the commander-in-chief.
