Ethics hotline shutdown
(2007-08-30)
(WOUB) - Ohio University has shut down its EthicsPoint Website and telephone reporting system.

The ethics website and phone line were established in 2006 and were designed to make it easier for employees and students to report fraudulent activities happening at Ohio University.

The decision to suspend the ethics reporting system was made after "The Post" made a public records request for all records related to the system.

According to a news release, the records contain substantiated and unsubstantiated claims of wrongdoing.

The records also contain the names of several individuals, including the names of those who didn't do anything wrong and those who alerted O.U. officials to potential problems.

Officials say the university will not take anymore reports through the website or phone line until it can put procedures in place to protect individuals.
