OU researcher goes after dopers
(2007-08-28)
(WOUB) - An Ohio University researcher is working on a way to catch athletes who cheat by doping.

John Kopchick and a colleague from Denmark got a $482,000 grant to fight against the use of human growth homone.

The grant is from the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Kopchick is a professor of molecular and cellular biology and his research involves analyzing serum proteins.

The trick is to use samples to find markers that indicate the presence of human growth hormone.

Kopchick says, "You have to be sure that any test developed will detect levels that are up and beyond that induced by normal exercise."
