OU students learn about death
(WOUB) -
"Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver" is a play about a family coping with end-of-life issues.

And while anyone could learn from it, the target audience is student doctors at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

"Confessions" chronicles the experiences of a daughter taking care of her parents, both of whom die of cancer at home.

It was written by Merri Biechler .

Biechler has a masters degree in playwriting.

She based the semi-autobiographical play on her experience of caring for her own parents, both of whom died of cancer...

After seeing the play, one medical student said the characters helped her better understand the emotions involved in dying and caregiving.

There are plans to also present the play - and a post performance discussion - to audiences of medical professionals from around the state.
