West Virginia lawmakers wrapping up special session
(WOUB) - All told, the West Virginia Legislature
passed more than a dozen bills during the three-day special session
convened by Governor Manchin.
The agenda included seven measures to supplement the 2007-2008
state budget by nearly $208 million.
Excess general revenue will provide most of the funds. The House
and Senate passed bills to benefit public health care programs,
highway and bridge repair projects and higher education.
The special session also saw lawmakers revive bills vetoed
because of legal flaws during the year's regular session.
One such measure aims to protect address information of victims
of domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking.
Another increases pressure on scrap dealers to avoid stolen
copper and other metals.
The Legislature also agreed to extend the Tourism Promotion
Grant program to include Internet advertising campaigns.
