Chemical Released in Mason Co., WV
(2007-08-17)
(WOUB) - A shelter in place advisory was lifted for Mason County, West Virginia residents who live near the Supresta U.S. chemical plant Friday morning.

John Kadlec is plant manager of the facility, formerly known as the Akzo Nobel plant.

He says a 300-gallon chemical container of a chemical used to make organic phosphates was leaking and 911 was notified as a precaution.

Kadlec says the container was doused with water and the leak is now contained.

He says a final analysis of the situation has determined there were no off-site effects.

No plant workers complained of any ill health effects either.

He calls it a very minor incident.

The plant produces a variety of products, including flame retardants and specialty chemicals.
