Audit finds mismanagement in chain of charter schools
(WOUB) - A new review by the state auditor says a chain of northeast Ohio charter schools were mismanaged and engaged in improper business practices.

The 19 taxpayer funded Hope Academy and Life Skills schools were cited for undocumented credit card purchases and bookkeeping errors. Auditors also found the schools were paying the same board members multiple times for attendance at a single meeting.

A spokesman for state Auditor Mary Taylor says the state needs to improve the management of public funds for schools.

The Ohio Community School Consultants, the company that owns the schools, said the amount of money referenced in the audit was minuscule compared to the $57 million budget across all the charter schools.
