School district eliminates principal position
(2007-07-31)
(WOUB) - In a cost cutting move, the Federal Hocking Local School District is eliminating the principal's position at the middle school.

The vote by the school board last night to take the action was 4-0.

Superintendent Jim Patsey also recommended doing away with one of the two elementary school principal positions but that failed on a 2-2 tie.

Patsey says the high school principal will now take over administration of the middle school.

He estimates the savings to the district will be about $60,000 a year.

This latest spending reduction means the budget is balanced for the current school year and Patsey calls that "good news," pointing out Fed Hock not too long ago was projecting a $1.8 million deficit.

Still, the district is not out of the financial woods -- there's a roughly $500,000 deficit from this past year that must be taken care of.

Patsey says there's a chance that could be done in about a year, although it's more likely to take two years.

He says it's true all the cuts will result in larger class sizes but he maintains academic quality is still good.
