Man sentenced to four years in officer's drowning
(2007-07-18)
(WOUB) - A man has been sentenced to four years in prison for a probation officer's death in the Ohio River off southern Ohio.

Joseph Harris pleaded guilty yesterday to involuntary manslaughter. Before making a deal with prosecutors, the man from Springfield on the western side of the state had faced up to eleven years behind bars.

In May, Harris ran away and jumped into the river in Gallipolis after being stopped by a city police officer and probation officer David Poling. Harris made it to an island, but Poling went in after him and drowned.
