Researchers work on more accurate bag-scanning system
(WOUB) - A team at Ohio University is trying to
develop more efficient technology for scanning checked bags for bombs.

Lead researcher Glenn Jackson says the systems currently in use at airports often provide false readings. The chemistry professor says the OU project is working on a device that's much more accurate.

The only problem is, it's relatively slow, taking about two and a half minutes to scan a piece of luggage, compared to about seven seconds for the current airport technology.

The researchers plan to keep working on their system for the next three to five years. Jackson says if they can cut the time in half, the federal government might be interested.
