Trial begins for nurse accused of drugging and killing husband
(WOUB) - Prosecutors allege that infidelity, dislike for work and hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance policy payouts drove a nurse to drug and kill her husband before setting their home on fire.

35 year old Michelle Michael is on trial for allegedly murdering her husband, James Michael. The Morgantown woman is charged with first degree murder and arson.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Perri DeChristopher made opening arguments before a jury today in Charleston.

DeChristopher says James Michael's body was badly damaged in the fire that destroyed his home. She added that the victim's wife would have gained more than @700,000 from fire and life insurance policies.

But defense attorney James Zimarowski says Michael has an alibi for the time of the murder, and accused the head detective of overlooking other suspects. Zimarowski says James Michael's ex wife and a former business partner should have been investigated more closely.

Testimony is to begin this afternoon.
