Nearly 1,500 apply for 80 jobs at Hino truck assembly plant
(WOUB) - More than a thousand people are vying for the 80 jobs at the new Hino Motors' truck assembly plant.

The Williamstown plant hasn't even started production yet and Workforce West Virginia's Job Service and Unemployment Office in Parkersburg has received more than 1,500 applications in the eight days since the plans to open the plant were announced.

The Toyota affiliate plans to invest 8.6 million dollars to get the plant ready to open by November. Hino Motors Manufacturing expect to hire assemblers, quality control specialists, production supervisors and others to help assemble 2,500 trucks a year.

The former tenant of the Wood County assembly plant was Walker Systems, which closed down in 2005. Walker employed about 300 workers and manufactured wire and cable management and distribution systems.
