C8 panel says spending records won't be released
(WOUB) - A scientific panel studying the possible health effects of the chemical known as C8 has rejected a newspaper's request for its expense records.

The three person panel is conducting ten studies that follow up on a health screening of up to 70,000 Mid-Ohio Valley residents. The residents were part of the class action lawsuit that
claimed C8 releases from DuPont's Washington Works Plant near Parkersburg contaminated their water supplies.

DuPont is funding the study, estimated to cost 15 million dollars. The Charleston Gazette says it asked the panel to provide
specific expenditure records but the request was denied.

One panel member, London School of Medicine researcher Tony Fletcher, told the newspaper in an e-mail that the settlement calls for the panel's work to be conducted in private.

Fletcher told the newspaper that the panel plans to share information on the study's progress and results with the public.
