Budget passes with near universal health coverage access for kids
(2007-06-28)
(WOUB) - The final tally today on the 52.3 billion state budget wasn't the only thing about it that was nearly universal.

The budget also will extend nearly universal health insurance coverage to Ohio children.

Lawmakers preserved the bulk of Governor Strickland's plan to cover all 156,000 uninsured children in the state. As a result, after Strickland signs the bill the week, more poor children will be eligible for Medicaid coverage, and middle class families will be able to buy into a low premium government insurance program.

Ohio joins about 30 states and the District of Columbia have enacted or announced coverage initiatives for children.
