Father of kids killed in boating accident attempts suicide just
(WOUB) - The father of a four year old girl and
16 month old boy killed in a weekend boating accident tried to commit suicide by jumping from a bridge into same river his children died in.

35 year old Michael Fisher leapt from the William S.Ritchie Junior Bridge in Jackson County on Monday after about 45 minutes of negotiations with police.

Jackson County Sheriff Michael Bright says the Ripley man survived the fall of between 75 and 100 feet unharmed.

Bright says Fisher "felt he had every reason to go into the river and join his dead children." Bright says Fisher felt responsible for the loss of his kids.

Fisher was steering a small boat that collided with a barge in heavy fog near Ravenswood around 2:10 am Saturday. He, his wife Jill Fisher, and brother in law Roger Posten Junior survived, but his children, Samantha and Jesse Fisher, and sister in law Jennifer Posten did not.

The bridge Michael Fisher jumped from is five miles upstream from the location of the boating accident.

He was taken to a mental-health facility for evaluation.
