Bob Evans has died at the age of 89.
(WOUB) - Bob Evans has died at the age of 89.

Evans became nationally known for his sausage, which he served to truckers in a 12 stool steakhouse in Gallia County.

That original restaurant became the cornerstone of a chain that bears his name.

Bob Evans had more than 1 billion dollars in sales last fiscal year, with 590 restaurants in 18 states.

Shortly after leaving the day to day operations of the business, WOUB interviewed Evans, who spoke fondly of his life in Southeast Ohio.

Evans said he became rich because he was motivated to make money but he spent his last years helping small farmer in the region.

Evans was being treated for pneumonia at the Cleveland Clinic when he died early yesterday.
