A Toyota owned truck manufacturer is bringing a plant to West Virginia
(2007-06-22)
(WOUB) - A Toyota owned truck manufacturer is bringing a plant to West Virginia.

Paperwork filed with the Secretary of State's Office shows that Hino Motors plans to open a plant in Williamstown in Wood County, on the site of the former Walker Systems operation.

Local and state officials are keeping quiet about the news, but the paperwork shows the company plans to use the facility for the manufacture and assembly of automobiles.

That would be a huge boost for the area, which suffered when Walker Systems closed in 2005, costing 300 workers their jobs.

Hino is not a major player in the US commercial truck market, selling less than 66-hundred trucks in fiscal year 2006. But the company says it's growing, and hopes to sell 10,000 trucks in 2008.

There's no word yet on how many jobs the plant will bring to Williamstown.

Japan's Toyota currently operates a plant in Buffalo, in Putnam County. Its 900 workers build engines and transmissions.
