Doctor dies in club swimming pool
(WOUB) - Despite the fact that there was at least one lifeguard on duty, no one saw a doctor who apparently drowned in a racquet club swimming pool go under the water.

Doctor Mahrokh Khedri was spotted unconscious in the outdoor swimming pool at the Greenmont Racquet and Swim Club in Vienna around 6:30 pm yesterday.

John Barr, the manager of the Wood County club, says club officials are still investigating but that Khedri must have gone under during a 15 minute swim break. Barr says during these periods, the lifeguards come down from their chairs.

Club personnel tried to revive the 39 year old doctor with cardiopulmonary resuscitation as did the ambulance squads who responded.

Barr says this is the first drowning at the 34 year old pool.

County Coroner Mike St. Clair says the apparent cause of death is drowning but that because no one saw it happen, Khedri's body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Charleston for an autopsy.

Khedri was an internal medicine physician at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.
