Legislative watchdog says former lawmaker broke ethics law
(WOUB) - The state's legislative watchdog says a former lawmaker broke Ohio ethics laws when he lobbied the state to reduce insurance rates for his gas station business.

Legislative Inspector General Tony Bledsoe says in a report out today that former state Senator Jeffrey Armbruster wrongly used his position to seek the lower rates.

The report says Armbruster, a suburban Cleveland Republican, lobbied the state insurance fund for injured workers about a reduction in his workers' comp premiums.

State law bars public officials from using their authority to obtain compensation or appearing before state agencies to receive personal benefit.

Records released last year show the state reduced Armbruster's rates after he asked for help with his premiums.
