USEC shares tumble after Times report
(2007-06-13)
(WOUB) - The stock price of the nation's only company that enriches uranium for nuclear power plants tumbled today.

Maryland based USEC is preparing to demonstrate an advance at a southern Ohio plant that figures to play in a crucial role in its future.

USEC shares fell nearly 12 percent from $2.55 to $19.24 in trading today.

The drop comes after a New York Times report today that the company's future is on the line.

The company says it has been about a year behind schedule and is going over its original budget on its American Centrifuge Plant project in Piketon about 65 miles south of Columbus.

But USEC spokeswoman Elizabeth Stuckle says the company is not struggling to survive.
