Beal denies neglect of duty charges
(2007-06-11)
(WOUB) - Hocking County Prosecutor Larry Beal denies allegations that he "committed wanton and willful neglect of duty."

In a court document, Beal demands that a taxpayers lawsuit against him be dropped. He says he has not mishandled cases while in office.

Beal is being sued by Attorney Will Kernen for, among other things, preparing and approving faulty indictments which caused a case to be dismissed.

Kernen also accuses Beal of preventing the state from presenting witnesses and evidence in a case. Kernen lists seven specific cases where he claims Beal acted inappropriately.

Meanwhile, Common Pleas Judge Thomas Gerken has removed himself from the lawsuit. He says he could be called as a witness in the case.

The Supreme Court will appoint someone to preside over the case.
