Man who used lighter fluid to burn wife gets 18 years in prison
(WOUB) - A Columbus man who pleaded guilty to dousing his wife with lighter fluid and setting her on fire has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Derrick Mason acknowledged burning his wife in bed last September while his two small children and two stepchildren slept nearby.

Prosecutors say the couple had been breaking up.

Mason's wife survived the attack but suffered burns to 30 percent of her body and spent five days in a coma.

She filed for divorce in April.

Mason pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder, aggravated arson and aggravated burglary.

He was sentenced yesterday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
