Senators act to freeze tuition, attract new scientists
(2007-06-04)
(WOUB) - Republicans who control the Ohio Senate have released a plan to freeze college tuition for the next two years.

They also want to increase student scholarships at two-year and technical colleges by ten million dollars over the House-passed budget and provide 50 million in state matching money for colleges and universities to attract top national scientists to teach in the state.

The plan is part of the Senate's overall budget proposal. Republicans say they'll release their entire two-year spending plan tomorrow and explain where they think they can get the extra money for higher education.

Lisa Hamler-Fugitt is executive director of a Columbus foodbank. She hopes Republicans don't take money out of programs for the poor.
