Wrong bonding material delays Wheeling Tunnel renovation 2 months
(2007-05-15)
(WOUB) - Renovation of the Interstate 70 tunnels at Wheeling, West Virginia, has hit another snag.

The West Virginia Division of Highways says a concrete bonding material isn't sticking to the walls of the eastbound tunnel. Officials plan to meet this week with the contractor, the Velotta Company of Sharon Center, Ohio, to figure out a better solution.

A highway division spokesman says the bonding problem is likely extend the work to the end of July.

Outdated specifications and plans have already added one million dollars to the expected cost of the project.

Work on the westbound tube is scheduled to begin next year.
