Mason police officers resign to protest chief's firing
(WOUB) - Five police officers have resigned in Mason, W.Va., to show support for their chief, who was asked to step down.

At Mayor Mindy Kearns request, Police Chief Derrick Taylor resigned Monday. Mayor Kearns says the decision to ask Taylor to resign was based on insubordination, and the others just followed suit.

"It was just things that I had told him to do that he left after we spoke and didn't do what I had asked," said Kearns.

There are only two police officers left to patrol the town but Kearns says she doesn't expect the officer shortage to last long. She's already received applications and expects these positions to be filled within a week.

The state police and sheriff's department will also help with law enforcement in Mason, while new other officers are being hired and trained.
