Culloden murder trial begins, 2 1/2 years after shooting
(WOUB) - It's been more than 2.5 years since 34 year old Danuel Harden was shot and killed at his Culloden-area home.

His wife's trial has been delayed nearly a dozen times but things are finally moving forward.

Since being indicted for murder in the case, Tanya Harden has turned down plea offers and pushed to have her case heard by a jury.

She pleaded not guilty this morning in Cabell County Circuit Court, where jury selection is under way.

Harden alleges the September 2004 shooting was self-defense.

While there are no police records of prior domestic violence between the Hardens, sheriff's officials have said there was
evidence of domestic battery.

Court documents say Danuel Harden brandished a firearm during an earlier dispute and that this confrontation resulted in Tanya Harden receiving multiple bruises and swelling to her upper body.

Yet Danuel Harden's family members have said they were unaware of any violence in the relationship.

The trial is expected to last into next week.
