Faculty letter criticizes Ohio U., asks for sweeping change
(2007-05-03)
(WOUB) - Senior faculty members at Ohio University have presented the board of trustees with a letter that is critical of school leaders and asks for "sweeping change."

The letter criticizes the university for a decline in the quality of entering students, a drop in graduation rates and the handling of the budget.

Another complaint is negative media coverage regarding data thefts from university computers, plagiarism in the engineering school, and athlete and coach arrests.

The letter says the university administration's handling of the issues has been "inadequate and/or incompetent."

University President Roderick McDavis says administrators are working to improve issues by reaching out to faculty.

The trustees' chairman says the board supports McDavis and Provost Kathy Krendl.
