Reading Rainbow writing contest winners announced by WOUB-TV
(WOUB) - The winners of the WOUB-TV Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest were recently announced. Children from kindergarten through the third grade in 33 counties participated in the contest. The contest was open for entries from January to March 2007, and the winners were chosen the first week of April. The guidelines for the contest instructed children to write and illustrate their own story. Illustrators, publishers, and educators from surrounding areas judged the entrants.

After the 12 finalists were chosen, prizes were given during WOUB's Station Celebration where children and their families were invited to the WOUB Center for Public Media to participate in a daylong celebration. The celebration included reading their stories on WOUB-AM, creating a broadcast video featuring them reading their very own stories, and taking a tour of the WOUB Center for Public Media. All entrants received a book donated by WOUB and a Reading Rainbow certificate of achievement signed by Reading Rainbow host, LeVar Burton.
