Bids opened this week for new school construction in Ironton
(2007-04-27)
(WOUB) - It shouldn't be too long before the first dirt gets moved for a $48 million Ironton City School District construction program.

The first bid-opening took place this week -- site preparation for a new elementary-middle school. Plans also call for construction of a new high school.

Superintendent Dean Nance says a key aspect of the high school project is preserving historic parts of the building.

"In this new structure, we've been able to incorporate some of the old, but this is going to meet the needs well into the future," said Nance.

After two failed attempts, Ironton voters approved an 8.7 mill bond issue last May to raise $18 million for the construction program. The state is picking up the rest of the bill.
