Panel approves site of clean coal plant
(2007-04-24)
(WOUB) - A state panel has ok'd the location of a new American Electric Power plant in southeast Ohio.

To win that approval, the Columbus based power company had to agree to meet dozens of conditions meant to address concerns about potential environmental and economic impacts.

AEP plans to build at a site along the Ohio River in Meigs County. The plant will use clean coal technology that eliminates pollutants responsible for smog, soot and acid rain. The project is expected to create 1,900 construction jobs and 125 permanent positions.

The plant is expected to go online between 2010 and 2015.
