WVU building closed after chemical spill
(WOUB) - Emergency officials are now saying that a chemical that was spilled at a West Virginia University lab this morning was not hydrochloric acid after all.

WVU spokeswoman Janey Cink says it was acedic acid, a chemical that in its diluted form is similar in makeup to vinegar.

Three employees were moving a fuming hood in a lab in the university's Life Sciences building at about 9:30 am when they accidentally spilled one or two liters of the chemical.

Cink says the acedic acid did not get on their skin but the workers were taken to the hospital as a precaution against eye irritation.

The building was to remain closed all day today during the cleanup. Classes should resume Wednesday.
