Poor bookkeeping is to blame in the Federal Hocking School District
(WOUB) - The superintendent in the Federal Hocking School District blames poor bookkeeping and improper planning for his district's financial problems.

The issues were highlighted in an audit released Tuesday by the state auditor's office.

State auditor Mary Taylor found more than 86-thousand dollars in liabilities were not recorded until fiscal year 2007, the district failed to regularly update its five-year financial forecast and a former treasurer was overpaid about 435-dollars

Superintendent James Patsey says part of the budget problem can be traced back to the former treasurer's spending forecast.

The district has been placed under fiscal watch and could be placed under fiscal emergency if an acceptable financial plan isn't submitted.
The Fed-Hock School Board voted last month to tell the state that it could not fix the problem on its own and invited a fiscal emergency declaration.
