Ohio governor critical of possible troop deployment
(WOUB) - Governor Strickland says he's concerned that Ohio troops told to prepare for possible deployment to Iraq will not have proper training and equipment.

The Democratic governor outlined his concerns in an interview today with National Public Radio.

Ohio is among four states where National Guard troops are preparing to serve as replacement forces in the regular troop
rotation for the war. The others are Arkansas, Indiana and Oklahoma.

Strickland says the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Columbus is being called up for the second time in two years, though past practice would have dictated they not be called again until 2009.

Strickland is asking the Republican Bush administration to take steps to assure that the soldiers are properly trained and given the most up to date body armor, night vision goggles and weapons.
