Cold snap affects farm crops
(2007-04-09)
(WOUB) - The cold weather is doing more than just ruining people's outdoor weekend plans. It is taking a toll on farmers.

The cold snap is affecting outdoor crops like apples and peaches which begin to blossom in the warm weather.

Robert Barnitz of Bob's Market and Greenhouses in Mason, W.Va. sells flowers and other crops. He says the cold is putting a freeze on his business. But he says in the farming business, everything revolves around the weather.

"We'll survive. We'll get through it, it's only temporary," said Barnitz. "Like I said, in our business, the weather determines everything we do and there will be better days ahead."

Experts say the state's peach crop will probably be the most affected because they blossom before apples and other crops.
