Packed house attends Zanesville council meeting
(2007-03-27)
(WOUB) - Zanesville City Council decided two controversial issues at its meeting last night.

Many of the overflow crowd attended to hear the fate of the rental-inspection ordinance and the inspection fee ordinance. But Council voted to remove both ordinances from the agenda and ended the matter.

Under the rental-inspection ordinance, all residential rental properties in Zanesville were to be inspected by December 31, 2008. The inspection fee ordinance would have set special inspection and re-inspection fees.

Council readdressed a skill game ordinance passed at the last meeting and passed an ordinance placing a one year moratorium on the issuance of licenses for skill game operators.

According to City Law Director Scott Hillis, licenses expire on December 31st, 2007. The new ordinance means current operators would not be able to renew their license until March 2008.

Council also restored funding to the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority. The city will contribute $100,000 a year to the organization.
