Loose barges halt Ohio River traffic at Racine Lock and Dam
(2007-03-23)
(WOUB) - Barge traffic at the Racine Lock and Dam on the Ohio River is at a halt as crews work to remove several loaded coal barges that have lodged against the dam.

The incident occurred about six this morning when a towboat heading down river lost power. The crew then cut loose the 15 loaded barges the towboat was pushing.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokeswoman Kathy Rey says the barges remained afloat and came to rest along the dam.

As of this afternoon, ten of the 15 barges have been safely removed. All the barges should be removed by this evening.
