Old McBee building could soon house new tenants
(WOUB) - The CEO of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce says plans for an abandoned manufacturing facility in Athens could lead to the creation of 300 jobs.

The old McBee building is now the new Hayes-Parfitt building and its vacant space could soon be filled with new tenants. Business partners Brent Hayes and Tom Parfitt are the new owners of the East State Street facility, which Chamber CEO Jennifer Simon says is about to get a make-over.

Simon says the improvements will be financed in part by a $278,000 state grant, and says Hayes and Parfitt also will plow money into the project. Simon says things should move pretty quickly to get the building in shape for prospective tenants.

Who's going to move in? Simon says Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc. of Athens is number one on the wanted list. Other local high-technology-type companies are also on the wish list.

Simon says the goal is to create as many new jobs as were lost when McBee left town.
