Wheeling-Pitt appeals OSHA fines in fatal fall at Ohio plant
(2007-03-23)
(WOUB) - Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel is appealing $147,000 in fines related to federal workplace safety citations that followed the September death of an employee at its facility in Mingo Junction, Ohio.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued the fine recommendation March Second, nearly six months after an employee fell to his death from an elevated walkway at the plant.

The government cited Wheeling-Pitt for two willful violations, alleging the company failed to provide guardrails, failed to follow lockout procedures and did not conduct periodic inspections as required.
