Ohio vets hear from concerned pet owners amid recall
(2007-03-20)
(WOUB) - Animal hospitals around Ohio are being flooded with calls from pet owners worried that their dogs or cats may have eaten tainted food.

The concern comes amid reports of animal deaths linked to moist dog and cat food. Menu Foods has recalled dog food sold throughout North America under 51 brand names and cat food sold under 40 brands.

Ohio State University veterinary professor Dr. Jane Flores says pet owners need to "calm down" and check to see if the food they use is on the recall list. But she also says animals should get medical attention quickly if they're ill and ate a product that has been recalled.

Menu Foods has told US regulators that in company tests, as many as one in six animals died after being fed the foods.
