Money raised for repairs on historic towboat
(2007-03-16)
(WOUB) - Officials say they've raised the money needed to save a historic towboat in southeast Ohio.

Andy Verhoff with the Ohio River Museum in Marietta says 1.4 million dollars collected by the museum and the Ohio Historical Society will be used to fix up the WP Snyder Junior.

The steam powered, stern wheeled towboat in Marietta was built in 1918 and has been designated a National Historic Landmark. But three years ago, it was declared threatened because of severe rust on its hull.

Verhoff says the hull will be repaired and other improvements will be made. The project could begin as soon as November.
