Ohio's Enviromental Protection Agency holds a public meeting
(WOUB) - The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will be holding a public meeting about the possible environmental impacts from a proposed power plant project in Meigs County.

American Electric Power and Ohio Power Company want to construct a 600 megawatt power plant adjacent to the Ohio River, at the intersection of U.S. Route 33 and Meigs County Route 338.

According to an EPA news release, if the project is approved, it would remove up to 360 thousand cubic yards of material from the river's bank and fill almost 8,000 feet of intermittent streams.

However, the discharges would not exceed the chemical-specific water quality standards, but the EPA wants to see if they would result in a change to the current quality of an unnamed tributary to the Ohio River.

The public meeting will be held at Meigs High School on March 6th.
